一 |     자료사진. 게티이미지뱅크 [파이낸셜뉴스] 중국에서 30대 여성이 보름 동안 물만 마시는 무리한 단식으로 단기간에 20㎏을 감량했다가 영구적인 장애를 남길 수 있는 뇌 질환을 진단받았다. 극단적인 식이 제한 다이어트가 뇌 손상으로 직결될 수 있음을 보여주는 사례다. 25일(현지시간) 사우스차이나모닝포스트(SCMP) 등 외신에 따르면 중국 허난성에 거주하는 여성 A씨(31·신장 160㎝)는 몸무게 70㎏에서 도교식 단식 수행법인 '비구(곡식을 끊는 행위)'를 모방해 15일간 물만 섭취했다. 체중은 50㎏대로 줄었으나, 단식 직후 보행 시 균형을 잡지 못하고 심각한 기억력 감퇴 증상이 나타나 병원을 찾았다. 정저우대 제1부속병원 신경과 쑨구이팡 의사는 A씨에게 '베르니케 뇌병증'을 진단했다. 담당 의사는 "A씨가 펭귄처럼 뒤뚱거리며 걷는 불안정한 보행을 보이고 있으며, 이러한 신경계 손상은 완전히 회복되지 않을 위험이 있다"고 경고했다. '베르니케 뇌병증'이란? 원인과 주요 증상 베르니케 뇌병증은 인체 내 필수 비타민인 비타민 B1의 결핍으로 인해 뇌 조직(시상하부, 유두체 등)에 손상이 발생하는 급성 신경학적 응급 질환이다. 비타민 B1은 뇌세포가 포도당을 에너지로 전환하는 대사 과정에 필수적인 영양소로, 장기 단식·심한 영양실조·만성 알코올 중독 등으로 섭취나 흡수가 급격히 줄어들면 발병한다. 베르니케 뇌병증의 대표적인 3대 징후로는 안구 운동 장애와 보행 장애, 인지 기능 저하가 꼽힌다. 발병 초기에는 안구가 떨리는 안진이나 사물이 겹쳐 보이는 복시 증상이 나타나며, 소뇌 손상으로 인해 중심을 잡지 못하고 다리를 넓게 벌린 채 뒤뚱거리며 걷는 운동실조증이 동반된다. 여기에 시간과 장소를 분간하지 못하는 혼란 상태와 급격한 기억력 감퇴가 복합적으로 발생한다. 치료의 핵심은 '골든타임' 확보와 신속한 영양 공급이다. 증상이 의심되는 즉시 고용량의 비타민 B1을 정맥 또는 근육 주사로 긴급 투여해야 한다. 특히 체내 비타민 B1이 고갈된 상태에서 포도당 수액 등 탄수화물을 먼저 투여할 경우 뇌 손상이 급속도로 악화될 수 있어 반드시 비타민 B1 공급이 선행돼야 한다. 조기 치료 시기를 놓칠 경우 영구적인 뇌 손상 단계인 '코르사코프 증후군'으로 악화된다. 이 단계에 접어들면 만성 보행 장애는 물론 새로운 기억을 형성하지 못하는 단기 기억 상실과 비어 있는 기억을 무의식적으로 지어내는 '작화증'이 남아 정상적인 일상생활이 불가능해지며, 방치할 경우 혼수나 사망에 이를 수 있다. 전문가들은 극단적인 절식이나 물 단식이 체지방 감량이 아닌 심각한 신경계 손상과 장기 부전을 초래한다고 입을 모은다. 건강한 감량을 위해서는 당분과 정제 탄수화물 섭취를 줄이되, 단백질과 비타민 등 필수 영양소를 고루 섭취하는 지속 가능한 식단을 유지해야 한다는 지적이다.                    자료사진. 게티이미지뱅크。    After a slew of blockbusters like Master, Vikram and Leo, Logesh Kanagaraj became one of the hotshot filmmakers in the South. He was supposed to direct a Telugu superstar from a mass entertainer, but that was delayed. The filmmaker’s recent release Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth did not do well at the box office. But that did not deter his chances of collaborating with a top star in Tollywood.          Logesh to direct a Telugu film     Recently, it was widely speculated that Logesh Kanagaraj will direct Pawan Kalyan in a straight Telugu film. While the reports excited the fans for a brief time, the buzz died down quickly given Pawan’s political commitments. Pawan had already told OG director Sujeeth to develop a prequel to the gangster drama, and as a result of this, many believed that the film with Logesh may not happen. But according to the latest buzz, the filmmaker has reportedly approached Allu Arjun. Apparently, the director was spotted making multiple visits to the Pushpa star’s office in Hyderabad. This led to conjecture that Logesh may collaborate with Allu Arjun. Although the reports are yet to be confirmed, the reports have certainly excited fans of Allu Arjun. Fans have already started the guessing game, dropping hints like “Pushpa-style mass,” “pan-Indian hero” on social media. But a better picture is likely to emerge shortly and we’ll get to know who Logesh is collaborating with.          Logesh is keeping fingers crossed     Allu Arjun is presently shooting for director Atlee’s film in a specially built VFX studio in Mumbai. Pawan Kalyan recently wrapped up shooting for Ustaad bhagat Singh; he hasn’t taken up any film as of now. On the other hand, Logesh too hasn’t taken up any directorial venture after Coolie.
